Where Waste Comes From
We all produce waste. It's estimated that each person in New Mexico produces about six pounds of waste each day. In 1997, New Mexico disposed of 2.7-million tons of solid waste:
1,742,184 tons: Municipal Solid Waste
898,435 tons: Construction Debris
112,160 tons: Out of State Waste from Texas, Colorado and Mexico
267,000 tons of waste was diverted (recycled)
